DRAGON QUEST V    -- A BRIDE FROM SKY --
                  Chapter 1      Boyhood


The opening of this game takes place in a castle. A man who looks like a noble
is very uneasy. After awhile, he hears the cry of a baby and another man who
looks like his subordinate comes down from the stairs and says "Your baby is
given birth to. And the baby is a lively male!!"

Until now, this story is a dream that the hero (you) is having. The hero is
on a big ship with his father, "Papas." Papas is on a quest to find his
missing wife. Right now, the hero is 6 years old.

After awhile, the big ship arrives at a small port. Papas and the hero get
off the big ship at the small port, and the hero's adventure starts here.

The hero and Papas go to a village called "SantaRose." There, the hero and
Papas meet two keymen. One is a girl called "Bianca," the other is a man
called "Sancho."

The next day, Papas says to the hero, "I am busy, so you must play alone."
So the hero walks around in SantaRose, and he hears from Bianca's mother that
a pharmacist living in SantaRose went to the cave of SantaRose and has not
returned yet. So the hero goes to the cave of SantaRose and helps the
pharmacist who was trapped under a rock! Bianca and her mother stay in
SantaRose because Bianca's father has caught a cold, and they had only come to
get some healing drugs. The pharmacist comes back to SantaRose, and they
receive some drugs from him. Bianca and her mother go home to a small town
called "Alcapa." Papas and the hero go to Alcapa with Bianca and Bianca's
mother to guard them.

In Alcapa, Papas catches a cold! Perhaps Bianca's father's cold spread?

So the hero and Papas lodge in Bianca's house, which is an inn. Bianca and the
hero walk around in Alcapa, and come across some children being mean to a cat!
Bianca says to the children "Stop!! This cat is pitiful!" The children say to
the hero and Bianca, "If you defeat a ghost that is appearing in Lenule, we
will give this cat to you." So the hero and Bianca go to Lenule. At Lenule,
the hero and Bianca defeat the ghost and get a Gold Orb!!

The hero and Bianca return to Alcapa, and they get the cat and give it a name.
This name is selected from "Borongo," "Tirol," "Puckul," and "Geregere"
by the player. In this composition, I called the cat "Borongo".

The next day, Papas is cured and the hero and Papas go home. The hero plays
alone in SantaRose for awhile, then finds a fairy whose name is Bella. Bella
says that her boss, Powan, is at a loss because someone has stolen her Fairy
Flute. If Powan cannot play her Fairy Flute, then spring will not come! So the
hero and the cat go to the village of fairies accompanied by Bella. There, the
hero, Borongo, and Bella defeat a boss, and spring comes!

When the hero and Borongo return to SantaRose, Papas is invited by the King of
Rainhat to visit him in Rainhat, which is neighboring to SantaRose. The hero,
Papas, and Borongo all go to Rainhat.

In Rainhat, there are two princes. The elder brother named Henry treats
everybody badly, but some people say that Henry is kind at heart! His brother
is a brother-in-law, because his mother is dead, and his father remarried.
His second mother is making Henry's brother-in-law the next king, so Henry 
feels very lonely. The king of Rainhat invites Papas because he wants Papas to
be a body guard for Henry and be Henry's friend. But Henry does not like Papas
very much. The hero talks to Henry, and Henry says "I am glad you are my
subordinate! Let's be friends!" The hero says okay. When the hero and Henry
are playing, a strong man comes and kidnaps Henry!

Papas is very shocked by this news, and goes after Henry alone! The hero and
Borongo run after him. The hero and Borongo soon find Papas who is fighting
against monsters. Papas is very strong, and uses some powerful spells, and
soon defeats the monsters. The hero, Papas, and Borongo look for Henry. When
they find Henry, they are attacked by monsters! But Papas says to the hero
"Run away with Henry! I will fight against the monsters here!" The hero,
Henry, and Borongo all run away, but they are then attacked by a boss of
monsters. They fight against the boss, but they cannot win.

The hero and Henry are kidnapped and then made slaves.

                  Chapter 2    Adult Age


Ten years pass. 

The hero and Henry are made slaves in an incomplete temple and are put to work
to build the temple.

One day, one of the slave drivers treats a girl named Maria badly. The hero
and Henry see this mistreatment and attack the slave driver to help Maria, and
they barely defeat the slave driver. The hero and Henry are then sent to
prison. After awhile, a man comes down to the prison and says to them, "I am
Maria's brother. You are scheduled to be killed soon, but I will help you
because you helped my sister. Run away with my sister, I know a way out!"

The hero, Henry, and Maria escape from the incomplete temple using a barrel.
They arrive at a convent and rest there. Maria decides that she will join this
convent. After spending a day there, the hero and Henry start off on adventure.

The hero and Henry arrive at a city called "Oracle Bery." This city is big
and prospering, and has a casino hall. In this city, they buy a wagon and meet
an old man who is called "Monster Master." Monster Master says to the hero,
"You have mysterious eyes. You can become a Monster Master. If a monster gets
up after a fight, he will become your companion." After hearing this, monsters
join the hero's party.

The hero and Henry then go north because they hear that SantaRose is north
of Oracle Bery, and has been destroyed by the forces of Rainhat! They arrive
at SantaRose. In SantaRose, there is very few people. The hero and Henry go to
the cave of SantaRose. This cave is the same one the hero went to 10 years ago
to help the pharmacist. When the hero was a boy, Papas went to the cave of
SantaRose and worked while the hero played.

In the cave of SantaRose, they find a letter and a sword. The sword is called
"Celestial Sword." The letter says, "My son, if you are reading this then I am
dead. I am looking for my wife and a Legendary Hero.The Legendary Hero can
equip the Celestial Sword. Please find your mother and this Legendary Hero! If
you do not find the Legendary Hero, the world will be destroyed by monsters!"

The hero cannot equip the Celestial Sword!

The hero and Henry go to Alcapa to see Bianca again, but Bianca's family is no
longer here. People say,"Bianca's family moved to another town." Other people
say, "Rainhat is an atrocity. The mother of the king is a tyrant!"

That night, Henry says to the hero,"I want to go to Rainhat because the King
of Rainhat is my brother, and I am worried about him." The hero and Henry go
to Rainhat, but they are not permitted to go into the castle, so they go into
the castle through a byway. En route, they find Henry's mother-in-law. She
says to them, "A monster has transformed into me! Please defeat the monster
for me and all the people!" The hero and Henry decide to defeat this monster
that is imitating Henry's mother-in-law.

They return to Rainhat and use the Mirror of Ra in front of the monster
imitating Henry's mother-in-law. The monster's true form is exposed, and is
killed by the hero's party! Rainhat is once again at peace! Henry, his brother,
and his mother-in-law get along well with each other.

Here, Henry and Maria leave the hero's party.

The hero and his monster friends go to the port where, 10 years ago, Papas and
the hero arrived at. They go to a city called "Port Selumi" by ship.

In Port Selumi, the hero hears, "In the south village called Cabochi, there is
a fierce monster that is destroying the crop fields." So the hero's party goes
to Cabochi and hears more about the monster in detail. The hero's party goes
west to where the monster lives. There, the hero sees a monster that looks
like a tiger. The tiger is called "Killer Panther." But the hero knows that
this Killer Panther is really Borongo! Borongo does not attack the hero or
his party. The hero shows Bianca's Ribbon to Borongo.

The hero's party returns to Port Selumi and then goes to a town called
"Rulafen."

In Rulafen, there is an old man named "Benette" who studies spells. The hero
meets Benette and hears from him,"If I have Rulemoon Grass, I will make a
spell called Rule. If you cast this spell, within a moment you can return to
a city where you have been once before!" So the hero's party goes picking
Rulemoon Grass and gives it to Benette. Benette gives the spell Rule to the
hero.

The hero's party goes to a city in the south called "Sarabona."

                 Chapter 3     Marriage


The hero's party arrives at Sarabona.

When the hero's party enters Sarabona, a girl chasing a dog comes running
passed. The girl shouts to the hero to catch the dog, and the hero catches
the dog. After catching the dog, the girl says to the hero, "Thank you for
helping me catch my dog. My name is Flora." As the hero walks around in
Sarabona, he hears from the people, "Flora is the daughter of Rudman, and
Rudman is searching for Flora's son-in-law," and, "Rudman has The Celestial
Shield." The hero finds his way to Rudman's house. When the hero arrives at
Rudman's house, many people are there. Rudman says, "If you want to marry my
daughter Flora, you must bring me the Flame Ring and the Hydro Ring."

The hero's party arrives at Death Volcano where they find Andy searching for
the Flame Ring. Eventually, the hero gets the Flame Ring and goes back to
Sarabona. The hero goes to Rudman's house, but Flora is not there. Flora has
gone to Andy's house to nurse Andy because Andy got burned in the volcano.

Rudman says to the hero, "Perhaps you will find the Hydro Ring in water. You
can use my ship to search for it." The hero's party boards the ship and heads
north. They come to a water gate and a sign that says, "The water gate can
only be opened by the people who live in the Village in the Mountain."

The hero's party goes to the Village in the Mountain.

When the hero's party arrives at the Village in the Mountain, they find that
Bianca is here! Bianca is very beautiful now. She is pleased to see the hero
again, and Bianca tells the hero that her mother died some years ago.

Bianca then says to the hero, "I will help you, because I want you to be happy."
Bianca joins the hero's party and opens the water gate. The hero, Bianca, and
the hero's party enter the Water Fall Cave, get the Hydro Ring, and return to
Sarabona.

Upon their return, Rudman says to the hero, "You can marry Flora if you wish."
But Flora says, "I would be delighted to marry the hero, but I think that
woman loves the hero and the hero loves that woman." Of course "that woman" is
Bianca. Rudman says, "Who do you want to marry, Bianca or Flora? Think about
it over night."

That night, the hero wakes up and meets Bianca. Bianca says to the hero,"You
had better marry Flora. Please do not worry about me. Flora is very nice."

Morning comes and the hero goes to Rudman's house. Rudman says, "Choose which
girl you love, Bianca or Flora?" (The player can choose. In this story, the
hero chooses Bianca.) Once you choose, Rudman says, "Okay! I like you so I
will prepare for your marriage. Go get the Silk Veil at the Village in the
Mountain!"

The hero retrieves the Silk Veil as Bianca stays in Sarabona to help prepare
for the wedding. Upon his return, the hero gives Bianca the Silk Veil and she
equips it. They go to a church in Sarabona to get married, and they find Henry
and Maria there. Henry and Maria had just been married. After the marriage
finishes, the hero and Bianca go to Rudman's house, and Rudman says to the
hero, "I will give you the Celestial Shield because I like you and Bianca. I
will also let you use my ship at Port Selumi."

The hero, Bianca, and the hero's party go to Port Selumi. 

They go south by ship and arrive at Telpador. There is a queen named Aisis
here. She says to the hero "You have mysterious eyes. Please follow me." The
hero follows Aisis to a small room where Aisis hands the hero a helmet and
says, "This is the Celestial Helm. If you are the Legendary Hero, you can
equip this." But the hero cannot equip this! Aisis then asks, "Why are you on
a quest?" The hero tells the queen about his mother and Papas. When Aisis
hears about this she says, "Papas!! Papas is the King of Glanvania!"

The hero's party ventures east and arrives at "Ned's INN."

                 Chapter 4   Fatherland


The hero's party goes north and arrives at a cave called "Mountain Path to
Chizot," a precipitous route to Glanvania. 

The hero's party arrives at a village called Chizot on the top of the mountain.
Bianca is weary and falls down on the road, so a person and the hero carry
Bianca into an Inn.

The next day, Bianca becomes conscious again. A nurse says, "The Mountain Path
to Chizot is very difficult for a lady, so Bianca collapsed because she was
tired." A man tells the hero, "Queen Martha, the wife of Papas, was carried
away from Glanvania, so Papas ventured to look for his wife." The hero's party
crosses a large bridge.

The hero's party arrives at Glanvania and meets Sancho again. Sancho is very
glad to see the hero after all this time, and he says, "Who is this lady?"
Bianca says, "I'm Bianca. I am married to the hero." Sancho replies, "Bianca?
Bianca!! You have become very beautiful! When I last saw you in SantaRose, you
were still a child!"
 
The hero's party and Sancho make their way to the castle that they saw near
the large bridge. The King of Glanvania is now Papas's little brother whose
name is "Oziron." Oziron is very glad to meet the hero and says, "You look
like Papas's wife, Martha. You have her eyes." Suddenly Bianca collapses onto
the floor again, unconscious. She is carried to a bed, and the next day a
nurse says to the hero and Sancho, "The reason Bianca fainted is because she
is pregnant."

Oziron summons the hero, so the hero goes to Oziron. Oziron says to the hero,
"I want to offer my throne to you." But Oziron's minister says to Oziron, "No.
If the hero becomes King, the hero must first face the dangers of the Ordeal
Cave." Oziron turns to the hero and says, "Many monsters inhabit the Ordeal
cave now. In order for you to become King, you must fight these monsters."
Oziron's minister adds, "This is a very important tradition." Eventually, the
hero's party must go to the Ordeal Cave.

The hero's party walks around Glanvania before going to the cave.

People living in Glanvania say, "King Oziron is very kind, but he is not
suitable for to be a king." People also say, "Oziron's minister makes a puppet
of him."

The hero's party arrives at the Ordeal cave. This cave has many traps. The
hero obtains the "Evidence of Kingdom," but some people who look like burglars
attack the hero and his party in an attempt to take the Evidence of Kingdom.
The hero's party defeats them, and goes back to Glanvania.

The hero meets Oziron and Oziron's minister, when suddenly a lady comes and
says, "Bianca is in labor! Soon, she will give birth to a child!" The hero is
very nervous and cannot calm down. Bianca soon gives birth to two children.
One of these children is a boy, the other a girl, and the hero names his
children.

That night, a birth and enthronement party is given, and all of the people are
glad. After a while, when everyone is asleep, the hero wakes up and walks
around. He goes to Bianca's room, but Bianca is not there! A lady comes out
from hiding under the bed holding the hero's children. She says to the hero,
"Bianca was carried out by monsters!" Sancho comes to the hero and says,
"Where is Bianca? Oh, this is the same as the last time. The time when Martha
was carried out by monsters!"

The next day, the hero goes into the minister's room and finds the "Winged
Shoes." The hero uses the Winged Shoes, and arrives at Northern Church.
There, the hero is told, "I saw some people and a monster go north."

The hero's party goes north and finds a tower called "Demon's Tower."

The hero's party goes into the tower and finds Bianca. When the hero finds
Bianca, a monster named "Jami" is guarding her. Jami worked for Gema and
helped to kill Papas. Since Papas was killed, Jami has been keeping his eye
on Bianca. The hero's party fights against Jami, but Jami is covered with a
mysterious barrier. The hero attacks Jami, but Jami does not sustain any
damage. Then Bianca shouts, "Stop Jami!" Jami's barrier vanishes, and the
hero's party defeats Jami. But as Jami is dying, Jami acts on desperation.
The hero and Bianca are changed to stone figures and are sold to people by
two adventurers.

                 Chapter 5     CHILDREN


Some years pass.

A lonely stone figure sits in a house's garden. A man and two children come
to the house and say to the house's owner, "Please sell this stone figure to
us." The owner agrees to this and sells the stone figure to the man and the
children. One of the children uses a stick called the "Stross Staff" on the
stone figure. All of the sudden, the stone figure changes into the hero. The
two children are the hero's son and daughter. They say, "Oh papa, papa! I'm
glad to finally meet my father."

The hero goes to Glanvania and meets Oziron, and the hero is told, "Bianca has
not been found yet. Your mother, Martha, was from the village called Elheaven.
Elheaven is here." The hero looks at a map and sees where Elheaven is located.

The hero, his children, and the rest of his party set out to find Bianca.
First they go to Elheaven. In Elheaven, people say, "We are special people
who live near the gods." and, "You have mysterious eyes just like your mother's.
When one looks into her eyes, they feel restful and at peace."

Bianca is not here after all, but the hero's party receives the "Magic Key"
and the "Magic Carpet."

They go to Village of Mountains where Bianca's father is living. Bianca's
father is glad to meet his grandchildren, and he says to the hero, "To tell
you the truth, Bianca is not my daughter. I don't know who her true father is,
but I love Bianca more than if she was my true daughter."

The hero's party travels all around the world searching for Bianca. They visit
Rainhat, SantaRose, Sarabona, Telpador, and so on. Then, the hero's party
finds a very high tower and they enter this tower. In this tower, a man says,
"Many years ago, people could go to Sky Castle through this tower. But now,
this tower is broken." The hero's party arrives at the top of this tower and
finds the "Magma Staff." They go south of Elheaven and use the Magma Staff on
the mountains there, and the mountains move.

In this cave, there is a man called "Pusan." The hero's party and Pusan arrive
at Sky Castle, which is sunk in a lake. Pusan says to the hero, "Oh, we need
the Gold Orb. Could you please bring it to me? I hear that the Gold Orb was
made by fairies." When the hero was 6 years old, he got the Gold Orb with
Bianca. But when his father was killed, the Gold Orb was broken by a monster.

The hero's party enters a forest, and the hero's children find a fairy, but
the hero cannot see this fairy that his children see. The children go after
the fairy, and the hero goes after his children. Eventually, they arrive at
the Village of Fairies and meet Powan. Powan says to the hero, "You helped us
long ago, so we will help you." Powan gives the hero the "Fairy Horn."

The hero's party goes north of the high tower and uses the Fairy Horn.
Fairy's Castle appears. The hero's party enters this castle and meets the
queen of the fairies. She says, "We are no longer able to make the Gold Orb.
Look at this! This looks like the Gold Orb, but this has no magic power. This
is all I can give to you." The hero gets the "Shining Orb" and walks around
in the castle. People say, "Bianca is from the sky and your mother is from
Elheaven, so your son is the Legendary Hero."

The hero finds a picture and looks at this picture for awhile. Suddenly, he
is inside the picture. In this picture, the hero finds himself in old
SantaRose, and he sees himself when he was 6 years old. The hero says to the
6 year old hero, "You have nice a nice orb. Please let me have a closer look
at your orb." The 6 year old hero hands over the Gold Orb to the hero. The
hero switches the Gold Orb for the Shining Orb and gives it back to the 6
year old hero. The hero attains the Gold Orb.

The hero goes back to where Sky Castle was sinking in the lake, and he hands
over the Gold Orb to Pusan.

For a while, Sky Castle floats in the sky and the hero can navigate where the
castle moves. The hero's party goes to a continent where they have never been
before via the Sky Castle, and they enter a tower they see there.

In this tower, there is a figure that looks like a dragon, and the hero's
party finds the monsters who killed the hero's father, Papas. The hero's
party defeats the monsters and they find some items that the monsters used in
the figure's eye. The hero's party obtains the "Dragon Staff" and the "Dragon
Orb."

When the hero's party returns to Sky Castle, they see some people are
surrounding Pusan. Some of the people say, "We don't know Pusan. Pusan is very
strange." Pusan says to the hero, "Please give me your Dragon Orb." So the
hero hands Pusan the Dragon Orb, and Pusan changes into Master Dragon. He
says to the hero, "Thank you very much. I will give you the Celestial Bell.
If you use this, I will come to you, put you on my back, and carry you
wherever you want to go."

                 Chapter 6       FINALE


The hero uses the Celestial Bell and rides on the back of Master Dragon.

The hero's party goes to the temple in which the hero and Henry were
made slaves earlier.

At the garden of this temple, the hero's party gets the Celestial Armor and
the hero's son puts on this armor.

Then the hero's party goes into the temple. Many people sit down and pray in
a big hall. The hero's party goes to the alter of this hall where they see a
lady and Bianca's stone figure. The hero talks to the lady and she says, "Oh
my son, I'm your mother, Martha. Pray to the God, Mildlars! Your father is a
bad person. Would you like to hear more about your father?" The hero answers,
"No!"

The lady is really a monster. The hero's party fights against this monster and
wins, but the hero cannot help Bianca yet.

The people in this hall seem to come out of a trance and say to the hero
"There are some hidden steps near here."

The hero's party goes down these steps. The hero finds a dead body with a
letter laying next to it. The letter says, "Maria, Maria. Your brother will
be dead soon. I hope that your life will be very nice."

Then the hero's party meets and fights a boss. When the hero's party defeats
this boss, the hero gets a Life Ring. This Life Ring says to the hero, "My son,
you are a very good son for me. I'm your mother. I can talk to you through
this  ring. I'm trapped in the Dark World. I want to meet you, but don't come
here! I must fight against the monsters alone. Monsters cannot go enter your
world because my magic is very strong. I hope that your life is happy. Go out
of this cave, and there you will find your wife..."

The hero's party goes to the big hall and meets Bianca! Two children cry.

Some days pass.

In Glanvania Castle, the hero decides that he will go to the Dark World and
help his mother. The hero tells his family of his decision to enter the Dark
World, his family agrees with his decision and they decide to go to the Dark
World with the hero.

The hero's party goes to Elheaven. People in Elheaven say, "In the northern
cave, there are three goddess figures. If you put three rings (Flame, Hydro
and Life) on these figure's fingers, you can enter the Dark World."

When the hero's party arrives at the Dark World, the hero hears Martha's voice:
"Oh, you look like your father. I advised you not to come here, but you came
to the Dark World anyway. I will not send you back. I will give to you a
present." The hero receives the Sage's Stone.

The hero's party arrives at a town called Jahanna. People in this town say,
"This town was built by Martha. Martha has very strong magic power because
she built this town in the Dark World."

The hero's party goes north and arrives at a mountain called "Evil Mountain."
They climb this mountain and see a lady, but monsters surrounding this lady
attack the hero's party. The hero's party defeats the monsters.

The lady says, "Oh, my son. You are such a kind son to help me. I am glad to
meet you, your beautiful wife, and my grandchildren. I will pray to the Light
God for you and your family." Martha then prays, "Oh Light God! I'm the son of
the Great God and Elheaven. Please grant my wish..."

Suddenly Martha is struck by lightning. Martha's last words are "H... I'm...
my... son... of... great... god... and... Elheaven... Please... help... my...
son..."

Martha dies.

The hero's party goes ahead and finally meets Mildlars! Mildlars challenges
the hero by saying, "Come on! I will kill the legendary hero and his family!"
The hero's party fights valiantly against Mildlars and finally wins.

-<<EPILOGUE>>-

At Glanvania castle, people celebrate. The hero, Bianca and the children
dance joyously.

The hero hears some mysterious voices...

Martha: "Look! Our son appears to be very happy."
Papas: "For a long time I have watched our son. Our son is now stronger than
        us. I feel that I can trust my son's future to him. Do you feel the
        same?"
Martha: "I do."
Papas: "Come, let's go to Heaven!"
Martha: "Yes, my darling..."
