DRAGON QUEST VII

Despite the absence of Enix of America, Dragon Quest VII has been confirmed for a forthcoming U.S. release. Not for the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive, as formerly thought, but for the Sony Playstation. It seems Sony themselves will be doing the translating. DQ VII is said to continue the "Celestial" series begun with Dragon Quest IV. The game is being targeted for a ’99 release in Japan. It is unknown whether Sony will release it under the U.S.-friendly title of "Dragon Warrior VII" rather than Quest, and it is also unknown whether DQ VII will keep its numeral, or be passed off as an incredibly belated V (since Dragon Quest Monsters will be retitled Dragon Warrior Monsters when it comes to the U.S., one would assume this title will be called Dragon Warrior VII stateside). Little is known about DQ VII, other than it is said to sport Full Motion Video (FMV) cinematic scenes. Some screenshots were recently released, pictured below.

According to RPGamer, progress on Dragon Quest VII is apparently slow going, as Enix announced it will not make its goal of a 1998 release.

The game is still being worked on, and has not been cancelled. They now project is set for a release August 26th, 1999 in Japan, with an as-yet unknown US release date (which may make it face competition from Final Fantasy VIII, at least stateside). The Japan release date has been pushed back again, but this game will happen.

The U.S. release date was set for "late 1999," but should now be expected in mid-to-late 2000.

DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS (GAMEBOY)

Dragon Quest Monsters has now hit the Nintendo Gameboy in Japan. As Konami has brought out Demon Castle Dracula: Dark Knight Prelude (CastleVania Legends in the states) out for Gameboy, it would seem Nintendo is doing everything they can to breathe life back into their portable system. Characters from Dragon Quest VI, Terry and Mileyu, take the spotlight as they gather monsters for their party.

In recent news, Dragon Quest Monsters will soon (finally) come to the U.S. as Dragon Warrior Monsters this Christmas.
