While most other Japanese-to-English groups are working on SquareSoft titles, one group worked toward the translation of the SNES Dragon Quests, namely V and VI. Sadly, that group, Enix Translations, is no more. RPGe's DQ I & II Remix patch is still the definitive (and now the only one next to the up-and-coming Partial/J2e Translations project), though RPGe has now dropped the DQ 1 & 2 and 6 projects) in-progress DQ I & II translation. De-Jap Translations (currently dead) also has a DQ III Remix patch that is king of the mountain. Partial Translations has taken up the reins of a welcome DQ V translation, more than worth keeping an eye on. Meanwhile, Partial Translations has also got Dragon Quest Monsters for Gameboy on hold for a translation, as well as BS-Dragon Quest for SNES. For those who don’t know, translation patches (typically in .IPS format) are patch files used with a patcher program (UCON or IPS) to patch ROMs (computer-based game files for use with emulator programs). This is legal so long as: 1) You own the games to the ROMs you are running, 2) You delete any ROMs you don’t after 24 hours. All of the below English-to-Japanese patches, with the exception of the DQ I & II patch, are extremely early in the process. Below are the best patches available for the Japanese Dragon Quests. DeJap has the most advanced DQ III Remix & DQ VI patches, RPGe has the most advanced DQ I & II Remix patch, while Partial Translations has taken over for the long-dead Enix Translations with a promising but early on DQ V patch.
